Faith in the WA Elector........ Restored

Well, after the boringness of State politics the WA electors have spoken. And they've really livened things up! Thank goodness.

It's restored a bit of my faith in the WA voting public, the swing from Labour and their useless waste of 8 years and however many billions of surplus dollars. And there's been a good swing towards not only the arguably lack luster Liberals, but thankfully to the Nationals and independents.

Way to spice up State politics. Lets just hope that it leads to good outcomes for the state. I'm opimistic personally about some of the smaller parties and independents having some power. I also really hope the other larger parties take notice that the voters ain't quite as big a bunch of dumb-arses as they seem to think.

Stay posted. It's not over yet ;)

Yeah it was quite interesting to watch the commentary on the ABC on election night. Julie Bishop looked kind of dumbfounded when she heard that the Nats would consider doing deals with Labor. And Kerry O'Brien kept getting irritated because the computers kept going funny :)

I have a feeling that Brendon Grylls has every intention of siding with the Libs in the end, but by acting like he's seriously considering Labor, Barnett has to up the stakes to match Labors dangling carrots. In the event that Grylls sides with Labor I don't know that the National voters will ever forget it. National Party might end up like the Democrats - although the Democrats were brought to their knees from within rather than by outside influences. But yeah, I don't think he really has any intention of siding with Labor. They would have to drag out the dangling carrot of the century, and even then the libs will probably match it or go better, I reckon.

Do we find out by Sunday who's in?

Let the games begin :)

This election pretty much sums up how I feel about both sides of politics.

I generally lean left but Labor is on the nose atm, so I couldn't categorically say 'I want labor to win'.

I have 'always' hated Colin Barnett (for no justifiable reason) but somehow in this election campaign he changed the 'hate' to 'well I still don't really want him as premier'.

So as it stands...I am still personally unsure which side I want to win. I voted Libs (well CDP them libs) in the end (after MUCH deliberation) and that was hard...given the Lib candidate for me was Mr Buswell! but even in voting that way...I'm not sure I want Liberal to govern...I guess I WANT Labor to get a wake up call (and stop passing dodgy prostitution laws).

On the National Party situation...I think what they do all comes down to whether they want to be the same old National Party (which there is nothing wrong with) OR if they are, deliberately, rebranding themself.

For example, I myself never even 'consider' voting National basically cause in my psyche a national vote is simply a vote for the Libs...so I may as well vote Libs in this case. HOWEVER, If I knew the Nationals were simply going to campaign for the best deal for the country areas...well they may well get my vote.

I mean, if they side with Labor will they lose 'some' (not all) traditional National voters? Yes, absolutely! However...I actually think there are a growing number of country people who want a party that WORKS FOR THE COUNTRY AREA'S first. And some of these are trad labor (especially up north) so, this positional change could actually see the Nat's pick up voters AS WELL.

For too long the Nats have been to poor sibling in a Lib coalition...its great to see them in the box seat for once! Whichever way they go, the next few years will be VERY interesting!
